There's a great Weezer song called "The Girl Got Hot." There is one line that says "What used to mean a little now means a lot”. It's about someone who used to get overlooked suddenly becomes the one everyone wants.

That's exactly what building a business can feel like. In the beginning, it's brutal. You have nothing. No one wants to talk to you. No one cares. You have zero leverage, and it's a terrible feeling. I was left sitting in the lobby for hours by some jerks. I had to decide whether to walk out or suck it up because we needed the business. I sucked it up. It's a humbling feeling. One guy even said, "I'm sending over the signed contract now, wait for it." It never came. Ha ha.

But if you keep driving hard — really working to be innovative and create value — something can shift, almost overnight. One day you realize you have leverage. The people in the room want what you have. Some of them maybe even wish they were you. The whole conversation changes.

That feeling — going from invisible to in-demand — is one of the great rewards of being an entrepreneur.
