The Essence is the Moat — by Dan Lynn
By Dan Lynn
I had an interesting insight about AI while building this platform.
I spent years writing down my key learnings — real stories from building companies, closing deals, leading teams, figuring out life, understanding what drives happiness. To build this platform, we 100% vibe coded it through Claude. It just reinforced how remarkable and transformation AI is - especially for non coders with big ideas. It's the band for a songwriter or a tech team for an inventor.
But when reviewing my own learnings that I used AI to enhance, something felt off. They read well — maybe better than my originals. But they were not quite mine. They were smoother than what I had written — but wrong: the essence of my learning was off. So, rather than have AI enhance any of the Key Learnings on this platform, I decided to have the Thought Leaders write their key learnings completely in their own words - with exactly the message and the essence of the learning that they want to convey. Then, we'd use AI to provide broader context and supporting (or opposing) evidence.
AI is a phenomenal tool. But get lazy and let it take over, and it makes your work better and worse at the same time — the polish goes up, the soul leaks out. And the soul was the whole point. It is the one thing AI cannot manufacture, because it never lived it.
So use AI. Lean on it. Let it expand your thinking. But never let it write your essence. Guard that with everything — because the essence is the moat.
