Happiness is in the Experience — by Dan Lynn
By Dan Lynn
My wife and I were sitting outside having breakfast at a little restaurant in Florida. It was a beautiful day—the perfect temperature—and the restaurant had an incredibly vibrant energy.
Everyone who knows me knows that I love coffee. In fact, I have every type of coffee equipment and am always in search of that perfect cup. As an example, when making a pour-over, I know the perfect ratio of water to coffee, the perfect temperature, and the perfect timing for each pour with a gooseneck kettle. So, yes, I’m a bit into coffee.
Well, I took one sip of my coffee that morning at the Florida restaurant and said to myself, “This is it. This is the perfect cup of coffee.” So, I asked the waitress to find out what coffee they used. I was expecting a local coffee roaster or some special new brand. Well, she came back and said, “It’s Folgers.” Ha ha! I couldn’t believe it.
Later that day, I went out and bought the exact same type of Folgers. And guess what? It wasn’t the perfect cup of coffee.
What’s the lesson?
Well, happiness is in the experience. It’s who you’re with. It’s what you’re doing. That beer, that wine, and that food all taste better when the moment is special.
Happiness is found in the experiences you create.
